This small Basque fishing village on France's southwest coast is where European surfing effectively started in the late 1950s, and Parlementia - the powerful right-hand point break just off its rocky point - is still one of the reasons why. It's a heavy, serious wave, breaking well offshore over a rocky reef, built for winter swells that push in hard from the Bay of Biscay. Locals have surfed it for generations, and the wave hasn't softened one bit to keep up with the town's growing reputation.
